Hot Stars - Cool Sky
inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's The Starry Night
Kindergarten
Students were introduced to Vincent Van Gogh's very famous The Starry Night. Through this painting we were inspired to create our own interpretations. We explored two color schemes: warm and cool colors. Our warm paintings were created using the sponge painting technique. The "hot" paper later became the stars. On our second meeting we described and analyzed Van Gogh's The Starry Night. Then using cool colors, students painted their own cool sky. After cutting triangles out of the warm painted paper, students arranged them into star formations and glued them into place. The final step was to add chalk embellishments to really make the stars shine!
